The COMPASS test is the pilot aptitude exam Fly Oz uses as the entry point to CPL training. It does not test what you know about flying, it screens the skills a pilot needs, things like hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness and quick thinking. It costs $110, runs on selected Friday mornings at the Cowra campus, and is the first step into both CPL courses.

A commercial pilot licence in Australia takes 12 months of full-time training. You do not need a degree. The CPL plus an instrument rating on a Beechcraft Duchess or Baron is the qualification most charter and airline employers want. At Fly Oz in Cowra, the Charter Ready programme costs $139,107. VET Student Loans are available.

Three pilot licences, one deciding question: do you want to fly for fun or get paid for it? An RPL gets you flying solo close to home, a PPL lets you travel the country and carry passengers, and only a CPL lets you earn an income from flying. On a commercial course you don't pick one, you pass through all three on the way to the licence that pays.
